The Dead World A Pellucidar novelette based on the works of Edgar Rice Burroughs eBook F Paul Wilson

A Pellucidar novelette written with the approval of the Edgar Rice Burroughs estate.
A plague is spewing forth from the Dead World, the stationary moon that hovers over the Land of Awful Shadow in the land within the Earth. David Innes, Emperor of Pellucidar, and the eccentric inventor, Abner Perry, rig a balloon to carry them to the Dead World. But Pellucidar's mysterious moon is not what it seems, and far more bizarre than they ever dreamed. It holds the answer as to how Pellucidar was formed - and how it will be destroyed. Can they stop the plague before it wipes out all life in the Inner World?
The Dead World A Pellucidar novelette based on the works of Edgar Rice Burroughs eBook F Paul Wilson
Well, the characters are believably Burroughs' characters, and even the plot might be considered to be consistent with the cannibalistic religion of Mars before John Carter cleaned it up. But the author makes fun of the believability of Pellucidar all the way through, and concocts a poorly developed explanation, without much suspense, that he apparently doesn't plan to follow up with any sequel. So what's the point? With Burroughs, I remember my first exposure to the Mars series. Before starting I thought "this is not going to be believable." Within a couple of minutes, I didn't care anymore. Wilson's whole novelette seems to be about making an issue of it. There is really no plot complexity. [spoiler] The aliens who made the place never appear, and the whole episode, much too easily resolved, was only due to a malfunction of some of their cleaning robots gone wild. There is the gem of an idea in there. If only Wilson would have written it.Product details

The Dead World A Pellucidar novelette based on the works of Edgar Rice Burroughs eBook F Paul Wilson Reviews
Was Good...
Good book
If you've read the Pellucidar series, this is an interesting sequel.
A fun novella that returns to David and Perry in Pellucidar. Has a bit of a cliff hanger ending so maybe a sequel will follow.
Short Novelette - Easy Read - Finished in an hour or so. Perfect for waiting for your doctor in the waiting room.
F. Paul Wilson has has written a addition to the Pellucidar series by E.R.B. what a tease of an ending. More Please!
A Pellucidar novellette that produces a threat to the inner world in the form of a Kudzu-like plant that emits a green gas deadly to humans. David Innes and Abner Perry take a baloon to the dead world, the inner moon hovering in the skies, learning a bit about how Pellucidar came to be.
A lot of fun for this old Burroughs fan.
